“BehinD the scenes in First Night, from a film Hugo shot during the show. The set was a knd of box of red drapes and we would creep about behind in the half-dark, or lie on the floor, have a crafty cigarette, or whisper about how the show was going.

This moment is near the end, waiting behind the curtains. Melancholy music plays accompanying the routine onstage, occasional yelps from Robin. I’ve just put the killer platform shoes back on, ready for the final line-up.”
